GitMarket does not collect, sell, or share your personal data. We do not operate any analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising SDKs inside the extension.
1. Overview
GitMarket ("we", "us", or "our") provides a Chrome browser extension that lets users discover and trade tokens backed by GitHub repositories on BNB Chain. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension accesses, how it is used, and your rights.
2. Permissions We Request and Why
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
storage — Saves your wallet address and UI preferences locally in your browser. This data never leaves your device.
activeTab — Reads the URL of the currently active GitHub tab so we can identify the repository you are viewing. We do not read page content beyond the URL.
sidePanel — Renders the GitMarket panel inside Chrome's native side panel UI.
windows — Opens pop-up windows for wallet connection and transaction confirmation flows.
scripting — Injects a lightweight content script into GitHub pages to display the GitMarket button on repository pages.
Host permissions:
https://github.com/* — Required to inject the GitMarket button on GitHub repository pages.
https://api.gitmarket.ai/* — Required to fetch token data, prices, and on-chain activity from our public API.
3. Data We Collect
We collect no personally identifiable information (PII).
Your wallet address is stored only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) and is never transmitted to our servers in association with any identity.
When you interact with a repository token, the extension sends the repository slug (e.g., owner/repo) and your public wallet address to the GitMarket API to fetch on-chain data. This is equivalent to a public blockchain query.
We do not collect your name, email, IP address, browsing history, or any other personal data.
4. On-Chain Transactions
When you initiate a buy or sell transaction, the action is signed locally in your wallet (MetaMask or compatible wallet) and broadcast directly to BNB Chain. GitMarket never has access to your private key or seed phrase. All transaction data is permanently public on the blockchain.
5. API Communications
The extension communicates with api.gitmarket.ai to retrieve token metadata, prices, and transaction history. These requests include:
Your public wallet address (when querying your token balances)
Our server logs standard HTTP access logs (timestamp, endpoint, response code) for security and debugging. These logs are retained for 30 days and are not linked to any personal identity.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party, except:
BNB Chain network — Transaction data you broadcast is inherently public.
Legal compliance — If required by applicable law or court order.
7. Data Retention
Local storage data (wallet address, preferences) persists until you uninstall the extension or clear it manually.
Server-side access logs: 30 days.
We hold no database of user accounts or profiles.
8. Children's Privacy
GitMarket is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
